The Two Claw Shrimp is a species in the order of Decapoda and thus belongs to the subphylum of the Crustacea.
Description
Brachycarpus biunguiculatus has an orange to red colour. The body is elongated, and there are clearly recognizable scissors on their arms. They reach a length up to 6cm.
Habitat and Distribution
The Two Claw Shrimp lives on rocky ground up to a depth of 1700m. It prefers places with a space to hide, like a hole. Moreover, it is often found in caves. When diving in the Canaries you can observe it quiet frequently. In addition, the its distribution area spreads over the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Indo-Pacific, the Caribbean and the Red Sea.
Biology
There is very little information on the biology of Brachycarpus biunguiculatus. They are opaque and accordingly night active. So far I have only found them living solitary, although it can be that they occur group-wise in places with good conditions. They are often found in the surrounding of Club Tipped Anemones and they fluoresce!
