Pufferfish relatives are an order from the large group of bony fishes with approximately 430 species.
The outdated German name “Haftkiefer” (literally “adhesive jaw”) originated due to fused jaw bones, intermaxillary bones, and other skull modifications common to all species in this order and found exclusively within it.
