The Orange Ball Anemone, also known as the Red Ball Anemone, is a species in the family of Corallimorphidae and thus belongs to the class of the Anthozoa.

Description

The shape of Pseudocorynactis caribbeorum is very similar to the shape of the Club Tipped Anemone. While their foot is dyed red-brown, the tentacles are transparent with an orange nib at the ends. They can reach a diameter of about 10cm.

Habitat and Distribution

The Orange Ball Anemone lives on a solid ground in depths up to 20m. When diving in the Canaries you can see them from time to time. On the western islands, however, it is very rare and can not be found in Gran Canaria. They are also found on the European coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, the western Indo-Pacific and the central Atlantic.

Biology

Pseudocorynactis caribbeorum lives solitaire and location-based. They are exclusively nocturnal and feed on zooplankton, small fish, snails and crustaceans.
