Nacellidae is a family of marine snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Patelloidea. Common Names

Members of the Nacellidae family are commonly known as "Nacellids".

Characteristics

Nacellids are typically small, with shells that are often conical in shape. The shell is usually smooth and shiny, and may be colored brown, gray, or black. Nacellids have a strong, muscular foot that allows them to cling tightly to rocks and other hard surfaces. They have a radula, a tongue-like structure covered with rows of teeth that is used for scraping algae from rocks. Their gills are located in the mantle cavity.

Environment

Nacellids are found in a variety of marine environments, including rocky shores, tide pools, and coral reefs. They are typically found in areas with strong wave action, where they can cling to rocks and avoid being washed away. They are also found in more sheltered areas, such as estuaries and bays. They are herbivores and feed on algae and other plant material.
