Lyria
Lyria is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Volutidae, the volutes. These snails are commonly known as “lyrias” or “lyra volutes”.
Characteristics
Lyria species are characterized by their distinctive, often brightly colored shells. The shells are typically ovate, with a well-developed spire and a large, wide aperture. The outer lip is usually thickened and flared, and the columella (the central axis of the shell) is often smooth or slightly folded. The surface of the shell is usually smooth, but some species may have fine, spiral ridges or grooves.
Environments
Lyria snails are found in a variety of marine environments, including sandy bottoms, rocky reefs, and seagrass meadows. They are typically found in tropical and subtropical waters.
