The Striped Paper Bubble, also known as Green-Lined Paper Bubble, Brown-Lined Paper Bubble or Rose Petal Bubble Shell, is a species in the family of Aplustridae and thus belongs to the class of Gastropoda.

Description

Hydatina physis has a reddish-brown colour with a bright blue margin. The housing is light brown with many dark brown stripes. Colour variations are possible. They reach a maximum size of 6cm in length.

Habitat and Distribution

The Striped Paper Bubble lives in shallow water, on sandy ground. When diving in the Canaries you can only observe it very rarely. Its distribution area also covers the Red Sea, South Africa, West Africa, the Arabian Sea, the Maldives, the Philippines, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil.

Biology

Hydatina physis feeds on many polychaetes, mussels and snails.
They are nocturnal and can not retract completely into their housing.

Furthermore they fluoresce.
